Another LR import bug
« on: October 15, 2014, 11:07:28 am »

To be honest, this is the first time I have encountered this, but I don't understand why.

When you import from an SD card that has both old (previously imported) and new photos, LR recognizes those that have already been imported and does not "check" them in the import dialog. Recently, this has not happened - LR checks for import all the photos on the SD card, including those already imported. Why would this be happening? I have not changed any file names.

Are you using the same Catalog as the previous import?
Do you have "do not import suspected duplicates " selected in the import dialog?

In Windows this can happen and it is not a bug.
The way that LR determines if an image has been imported is:

Standard way: Full path and file name coincides
"Suspect duplicate": file name coincides

Now, it might happen that when you connect an SD card (or any external device) it gets assigned a different drive letter than the one on a previous occasion. Lets say that you insert your card and it gets the G: drive, -> you import the images, then next time, the card gets the letter F: => this will change the full path and will no longer be considered the same file. The "suspect duplicate" option is to handle these cases.

Also if you delete an imported photo in LR and it is still on the card, LR will see it as not previously imported in a subsequent import.
