I asked the Hass rep about using my 4-50 on the H5x and he said it was a no go.  I assume that is the same for your 3D3-31.

Apparently no support for H3. Quote "Although aimed primarily at current H1, H2, H2F and H4X users wishing to upgrade to H5 capabilities, the H5X can naturally act as a backup for H5D users too. For 3rd party digital backs, the H5X offers the same functionality as the H4X." H5X supports H5D capture units only apart from H1 and H2 units. (probably not Leaf). H4X does not appear to support any H backs un-naturally and unfortunately except film.

Since i also have a H2D-39 i can assume that this back will work since its for H2 and my H3D-31 will not? This sounds kind of wierd.
The only reason i consider the X is to get true focus.

I wouldn't assume that an H2D back will work on an H4X. An H2D is not an H2. Try before committing.
