Make a decent size print to refer to,  not a low resolution version on your phone.

Markup your tripod and head.

Bring a tape measure with you and make notes on the camera height and distances from "landmarks" in the photo to use along with the relevant EXIF meta data (focal length if using a zoom & aperture)

... And no, being anal retentive doesn't bother me. I'm a software engineer for a living. I'm actually rewarded for it in my trade.

The same trait that is invaluable in one trade can be rather detrimental in another. Trust me, I am a finance guy :)
