Remote Star trail - Australia
« on: July 15, 2014, 03:06:22 am »

Thought I would put up a shot from the remote parts of  "Downunder"
A star trail shot from Lake Poeppel

All the light in this shot was provided by the stars reflecting off the Salt Lake Surface.
The shot was based on the Southern Star and the milky way can be seen as a fog like area near the middle.

Canon 5D MkII - 20min exposure at f10 - 12mm - 11pm
Have included the Google Earth kmz in case you want to see where it was shot.
Laying down for 20 min watching the night sky was more fun than you can imagine.

PS - If you are over here with a few weeks to spare - happy to take people out there!
(Always looking for a reason to get back out for more shots.)

 :)

Attached is a pic of how we get there .....

Wonderful photo. I would love to see a longer exposure time, as I think the trails are a bit too short.

As for the "how to get there shot", it reminds me of the "outback" of Oman, another wonderful country to get dark skies.

Seems to be a good enough reason to go do it again eh ?    ::)

Wonderful use of starlight. I think the star trails are a good length.
