Possible future reviews?
« on: September 23, 2005, 04:49:11 am »

Hi Michael,

Firstly, thanks for your review of the 5D. I always really enjoy your reviews, even when I'm not really interested in purchasing the camera you're reviewing, and I really especially enjoyed your comments from this latest review.

However, I was wondering about some possible upcoming reviews.  In particular, do you think you'll be reviewing the new 24-105 mm IS lens soon?  This is a lens I am personally very interested in and I'm pretty sure that a lot of other people feel similarly.

Also, with all the negative speculation/comments about the wide angle "issue" with full frame cameras, would you consider doing something like a comparison between a 20D with a 10-22 mm lens compared to the 5D with, say, a 17-40 mm or 16-35mm?  If only to put some of the speculation to rest this might be an interesting test despite its obvious limitations such as not being able to control variables such as the different lens quality and sensor image quality etc.

Anyway, thanks again for the review and look forward to reading whatever you have for us next!

Christian.

I'd also be interested in hearing how you like the 24-105 lens.  I'm considering getting a 5D, and would like to use that one for my main walk-around lens if it's a Good One.

Lisa - oh my!

And I was sort of considering a D2x at one point.

Isn't being agnostic beautiful? And expensive?

I am leaving in mid-October to do a 2 weeks workshop in China. I'll be mainly doing landscape work with my Contax 645 / Phase P25 system, but I expect that the Canon 5D and the new 24-105mm will be my main walk-around system. Of course I'll have a write up afterwards.

Bob -
Actually, I was a Canon Elan (film) person for quite awhile before getting the D70.  For me, the lenses are a major driver for which camera I use, which is why I'm so interested in whether the 24-105 would, together with the 5D, give me much better (especially more enlargeable) images than the D70 w/kit lens.  No particular brand loyalty here; I use whoever can give me the best tools for the $ and for the lb (or kg).  I was thinking about getting a D2X for awhile, but immediately gave up on that idea after hefting one and finding out how big & heavy it is.  The 5D doesn't seem too bad, weight- and size-wise, from what I've seen so far.

Michael -
Thanks.  I look forward to your write-up!
