Finding a pro print lab in London
« on: July 04, 2014, 03:31:53 pm »

I'm in the US and have a request from a client in London for Fine Art B/W prints from several of my images. In order to speed up the process and avoid shipping costs and duties, I'd like to use a UK print lab capable of producing exhibition quality prints on baryta paper. So far I've come up with several in the UK through Photoshelter, and Metro Imaging in London looks like it might be the best. Can anyone confirm their level of quality or suggest another lab?

Thanks in advance.

I used The Print Space when I was in London a few years ago. They were good not too pricy.

Metro have the advantage of being able to print digitally to Ilford (the company who make film and darkroom papers) bromide papers. All the (un)usual options of gold / selenium etc make a rather nice icing on the cake. Excellent result, but you pay a price for it.

Is it too against the rules to mention Photofusion.org - a small outfit in Brixton, sat above a very nice market, where we print onto the Canson papers (and others), but the Rag platine is a favourite.

You could check out Chaudigital.  They specialize in B&W and used to do all Bob Carlos Clarke's work before he died.  Certainly worth a look.

Metro is a large and fast but you'll probably get a more personal service from Danny Chau's outfit.

Good luck,

Peter

+1 on Chau digital

I've seen some excellent work from there.
