Fake Hahnemühle canvas or?
« on: June 29, 2014, 09:56:13 am »

I have bought a new roll Hahnemühle Monet canvas, but it does not feel like the Monet canvas I have used so far.
It is more rigid and the weaving / surface is a little different. The back is similar to the old canvas.
The roll came in a box that does not look suspicious.
When I print a picture is equal to a picture of the old canvas.
Am I wrong or has Hahnemühle changed the Monet canvas???

Could be just a QC issue.  That's why they have Lot and Reference numbers.  Cone mentioned in one of his blogs about their Photo Rag being different with bleeding and maybe QC issues from the factory.  Old paper may get more stiff and brittle too.

I have some that has a small 6mm border near the entire edge where it is finished differently than the middle of the roll, like it was the cut end of a loaf of bread or their texturing rollers didn't go off the edge.  Not a big deal as I don't print borderless, but still annoying to get that side roll piece.

Send Hahnemühle a message explaining what you niticed.
It may very well be a QC problem that they are not aware of, as their canvases are produced by another company. Inform the batch number so they can track it.

Sorry (not mine either but I got used to most acronyms because I am lazzy :P ) As Mike said QC = Quality control.
I never asked their manufacturer because I am quite sure they would never tell, but I know that it is made in USA.

Edit: Actually, Canson canvas is made in USA. Hahnemühle´s I am not sure.
