Hi all,

Strange to ask this kind of question.  But my family is flying to Canada which we knew nothing about.  We just fly into Vancouver (which is closer to Hong Kong).  Other than planning to go to Seattle to visit Bruce Lee Graveyard (which is not even in Canada), there is no plan at all.  Any good landscape site close by.

(The reason why this question pop up is that I tried to find the LuLa Art Gallery but that is in Toronto.   May be next time when fly from UK; not this time.  Then, I saw someone asking this kind of question.  Well, may be I tried.)

BTW, after reading all the posting about DP1/2/3m, I got them all in the last 2 weeks and now have 12 batteries, 2 4xbattery-at-the-same-time charger.  I hope it would be good.

Also I guess 1/7 is Canada Day and do they do firework here.

It' sa bit of a vague question as there are "landscapes" everywhere. What types of landscapes are you looking for? How long will you be there for? Will you have a car? (Yes, a very North American question, but relavent as public transit isn't as well-developed in Canada as it is in, for example, Europe.)

For what it's worth, you are flying into Canada's most picturesque large city, sandwiched between the ocean and the mountains. The rugged coastline is extensive, but can be difficult to reach. There are extensive mountain trails in North Van and West Van, Grouse Mountain and, of course, the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

There are tons of resources online; e.g.

Thanks.

I just not prepared for Canada.

Landscape - well, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, but mostly Yosemite (I still have a dark room and just ordered the 8x10 tube in kick starter for 8x10 velvia development at home) is the original places we were planning. But given the current British way of passport issue one of my boy only get a temp. Passport and the nice guy in Hong Kong told my wife we can try Canada.  Not that inef... In fact after struggle with the weight I decide no 14-24
24-70 70-200 and 80-400; just 5 cameras but mainly the dp1/2/3m supplement with canon sx50 and sony 6 with a manual 40 f1.4 for lower light. Do bring my spot meter and 12 batteries for the dp?m "thing".

Wildlife - family been to African safari and Galapagos; assume not much here.  The 5 there max bird in a stick. My trip to india river in the north with naturetrek done that.

Now, the issue is find some whales and some mountains.  So far sea is not the issue. But the snow one is 1000 km (I think it is miles actually; cannot help it) away.  Driving ...

Anyway just a family holiday for 2 weeks.  When god give you Canada, might as well make some ... Not to say that you know, but usually you ring a few nouns when you heard a place.  But other than nig. Fall ... Sorry blank

May be just go with the flow.  May just stay in British Columbia and check out Victoria plus a nearby snow place.  Very busy buying lonely planet and just now buying British Columbia :-).  Flying in a few hour's time.

I would try Tofino on the West coast of Vancouver Island. If you have two weeks, I would think about the Canadian Rockies. Great hiking and photography. You might be early for some of the wildflowers. You could come to Salt Spring Island, ferry or float plane ride from Vancouver.

There is so much around Vancouver you'll be spoiled for choice - everything from the world famous Stanley Park to the George C. Reifel
Migratory Bird Sanctuary to the Capilano Suspension Bridge to... It's a natural paradise. Within an hour or two from Vancouver you can get to Whistler, to Golden Ears Park, the Sunshine Coast or you can take the ferry over and see us on Vancouver Island and/or stop in the Gulf Islands.

If you really want I can show you how to get to Gold Bridge, BC from Lilooet, BC, but I must warn you... not only is there no shoulder on Carpenter Lake Road, there's a cliff on one side, a fairly steep drop off on the other, and they have an old snow plow with a modified blade that goes by occasionally to keep some of the rocks off the road. Did I mention the hair pin turns?
