Vertical line at high iso (Phase One P30+)
« on: June 03, 2014, 10:27:05 pm »

Hey everyone. I'm getting three vertical lines at what only seems to be ISO800 and up. I'll have to double check the lower ISO's but it doesn't seem to be there. Any idea what could be causing this? At correct exposure it's almost impossible to see. Only becomes apparent when i bump exposure quite a bit.

Double checked, seems to be there at low ISO as well. Really need to push the file +4 stops to see it.

I think those are column errors. With Hasselblads you can get a calibration file to fix those I'm sure Phase is the same. Check with your dealer.

Yes it's probably column errors, and yes the Phase One backs have calibration files to mask out those (meaning that those pixels get interpolated from neighboring pixels), you need to send it in to get the calibration file updated.

It's normal that even new cameras have a number broken pixels (masked out with the calibration data), it's less common that you have column errors like here but it can happen.

Column errors accrue spontaneously - I think there are some tricks to force a raw converter to recognize a broken column, search this forum for a LR trick, I have been looking for one for dcraw.

Yep, column errors. Contact your phase one dealer and they can step you through the process to calibrate your back remotely. I see you're in Pittsburgh; if you travel to NYC you could also schedule with our service team to drop off the back and have it calibrated in person.

Are there step by step instructions online to calibrate a Phase back?   One of my older backs has this as well.

Contact your dealer and they will step you through the process. It involves a step where you need to send the dealer a raw file and receive back a cal file.

H series backs (the ones with no LCD or cf card) can't be remotely calibrated. Otherwise most of the time your back can be calibrated without leaving your home/studio.

I can't speak for other dealers either way, but we (Digital Transitions) would be glad to help. Shoot me an email. As it happens I'll be in Chicago twice this month (not that we need to be there in person for this process which can normally be handled entirely remotely). Maybe we can get together for a drink and calibrate your back while we are at it.
