Moab Slickrock Silver in Canon ipf8300
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:31:49 pm »

I recently got a roll of Slickrock Metallic Silver 300 to try on my Canon ipf8300, but I can't get the AM1 file provided by Moab to load through the Media Configuration Tool.  I keep getting a "The Media Information File is corrupt" error.

Has anyone gotten this media file to load through the tool?  If not, what is the best standard profile to use with this paper on an ipf8300?  I did download and install the Slickrock ICC profile and have had decent luck using that with the Premium Glossy 280 setting in the driver, but I'm wondering if there's some way to get more "pop" out of my images.  The paper is interesting, but it's VERY dark and doesn't seem to work that well with profiles designed for whiter bases.

Thanks in advance!

I've used the lasal exhibition lustre paper profile with slick rock. in the end I simply decided that I don't care for slick rock. I felt that the results with the lasal profile (and slick rock icc) were what they should be.

.am1 files aren't cross platform compatible, unfortunately. If it was made on a Mac and you are on a PC, then this is likely your issue.

If you haven't downloaded and installed Canon's Media Configuration Tool, this may help with setting issues and some of the profiles.

The Moab Silver has provided us with a good looking pop out of the image and many different types of pictures.  It may not work for certain images, but can't hurt to try.  If the profile doesn't work as well as expected, give Moab a call to see if there is something else that they have done besides the profile.  Other printers may have options from their testing.  We've used between Semi-gloss and Glossy 255gsm that looks fairly close in quality, but it's more on the users preference.

Also, the ICC profile will not contain an .am1 extension.  You can download the ICC from Moab's site which will have .icc
