A Matter of Life and Death

Just as a little back story for all my friends here,  I took up my camera today for the first time in a year since the death of my wife, and went on a casual drive to a nearby beach place where I took one shot - this one. I have no idea if it's good, bad or indifferent, but it means a lot to me to be back shooting. Keep your collective fingers crossed!

I don't know about "good," Seamus, but it sure is funny. I gather your dog can be off-leash before 10 a.m., and that means running after him with a poop-scoop. If you see some guy a mile down the beach who doesn't scoop his poop you'd have to guess which car is his so you can get the plate number and call it in to the Doggy Poop Hotline. If you're wrong I'd guess you'd end up defending yourself in court against a false poop charge

Thanks for that, Russ. I hope so. In the meantime, like so many others, I suspect, in this place, I am not alone. By the way, I don't have a dog.

Sorry for your loss, Seamus. The way you linked it to photography, tells a lot about its magnitude. It also raises an interesting question about the role of photography in our lives. I heard stories about people discovering photography as a therapeutic way to deal with their tragedies. I guess you and I are on the opposite side of the spectrum: I found that I can not do much new photography ever since serious troubles started in my life.

I, too, am sorry for your loss, and appreciative of your efforts to get back into photography.
This poignant/funny image of yours reminds me somehow of a street sign I saw in Florence, Italy.

Many signs were in multiple languages, but this is the only one I saw that was in English only, suggesting just which kinds of tourists they expected to behave in inappropriate ways.

Welcome back, Seamus. Sometimes photography is just about being out there with camera in hand. What comes out of is it allowed to be secondary, as long as it feels right.
