Voigtländer Color Skopar 4.0/25 on A7R?
« on: March 31, 2014, 01:39:49 pm »

Hi!

I am planning to buy an A7R and look for lightweight lenses, in particular a 24 mm. I had thought of the Voigtländer Color Skopar 4.0/25, but this review does not sound too good:

The question is, how much can be rescued by deconvolution and maybe other postprocessing tricks? Does anybody have experience with the lens?

I have an AI Nikkor 2.8/24, but the Skopar's weight is very attractive…

My own take on using wide RF lenses on the A7r: not worth the bother. You can dial out magenta contamination at the left & right sides of the frame and perhaps even improve corner clarity via deconvolution techniques, but I'd rather just work with cleaner data. Of course this means larger SLR wide lenses. As I'm not an ultra-wide kinda guy I can manage fine with a 24–28mm f/2.8...these aren't too bulky or heavy.

Now this is just me. YMMV.

There isn't a 24/25mm but one option might be the Voigtlander SLR pancakes at 20mm and 28mm, the former anyway seems to perform well from what I'v read and there so small your still fairly compact even with an adapter.

I don't know the 25 but I use a Color Skopar 21mm f4.0 on a Nex 7 and like it a lot.  Very small and very sharp.  There is a significant amount of magenta cast on either side of the frame but converting to dng and batch processing through Cornerfix solves the problem.  The additional work isn't really much of a hassle.

Thanks for your replies! It would be really nice if Cornerfix would indeed solve the problem. There seem to be conflicting experiences, but mostly good ones.

Good light!

I've found the Voitlander 20mm to have about the same performance as my Canon 17-40 -generally adequate.

Thank you, Stever. I will however stay with something a little longer than 20 mm.
