8400 not in use for 7 weeks, what to do?
« on: March 30, 2014, 12:25:02 pm »

I got my Canon IPF 8400 on 06/02, i did try the machine out a bit, this is my first experience with printing, and so far i love it. :)

I have been reading some topic her and as i can see, this machine is made for running, and it is not good for the machine too have too long pause from printing.

I´m a fisherman, i left home 24/03 and will be back home 16/05, witch is more than 7weeks, i have asked my oldest son to print two times a week, and print on 2 A4 sheets each time.
My question is, is that enougt ?.

Also this machine has some software that calculate ink usage, the numbers i did read at one time, the software did say i hade used about 280ml, but later same day i did look somewhere else inside the maschine software(i dont recall where i did see that, i will find it again when i get home again)that number was above 700ml of ink used.
My question is witch number are closest to the real usage ?.

Is it the 700ml+, what is the cause for this high ink usage, is it something the machine use while she is running some "cleaning" ?
Is there some settings i can/should change to reduse this (maby waste of ink).

I did print on the machine at least every other day.

700ml is probably the amount of ink that left the cartridges, including the ink used to fill the subtanks and ink lines. 280ml may be the amount actually fired by the heads.

two A4 two times a week is probably more than enough to keep it in good shape for seven weeks. Canons are not Epsons!  ;)

Geraldo
Okey.  Thank you, that make sense, i didn´t think of the subtanks+ect.

Now i´m more relaxed, when you say it is more than enough to keep her in shape  :D.

Thank you.  :D

Leave an 8400, or a HP, alone for seven weeks and it should still print perfectly.
