any possibility that nikon will in the near future have a wider tilt/shift lens than the 24mm? something like canon's 17mm t/s lens

It's been in the rumor mill about 2 years now.  Supposedly patents filed, et all,   Been there done that.  Nikon has a huge hole with their TS line up.  Especially if you are working with a D610, D800.

Love it, Canon has a state of the art 17mm and 24mm ( I have the 24mm and have used the 17mm), with sensor technology that is close to 4 years old now.  I know, lots of great shots are still being taken with that technology.  And Nikon has a huge sensor, great DR and pretty much terrible TS lenses.  I know, some folks love the current 24mm and take great shots with it.  Just didn't work for me having seen what the Canon can do, (now on the IQ250 at 50MP).

Oh well.

The truth is that Nikon hasn't created much since the 11-Mar-2011 quake.

The D800/D800E were about to be released already. Most of what came after that has been severely lacking innovation and/or relevance for higher end shooters:
- zero body innovation, basically as boring as Canon,
- only a few relevant lenses in the mid range, excellent but very me too.

Thom Hogan believes they are concentrating all their energy on the next big thing, a la D3/D700/14-24 f2.8. I hope it will include the 17 T/S.

Cheers,
Bernard

but even if they`ll bring a 17 shift lens, if it doesnt exceed the quality of their 24ts it wouldnt be good enough.
and they`d need a new 24 as well, i couldnt work with the actual one. to much CA if shiftet, really bad. at least my sample.
