some large format from Tasmania
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:20:52 am »

I haven't posted here much/at all although have been a prolific lurker.

Thought I'd share some large format photos from my neck of the woods I've taken over the last little while.

Been on large format about 3 months. Love it.

Yes, great skies and strong foregrounds.

get straight into it (I'm selling a Sinar F2 4x5 monorail on ebay here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151256116374?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 )

I'm not printing, only scanning my negatives. but such an amazing feeling when you run a scan and this image pops up in front of you with no photoshopping that looks absolutely amazing. all of the images above except one have had no photoshopping done except for dust removal.

I like these photos, and the detail printed big must be wonderful to look at. I do find some of the highlights a bit too harsh on some of them.

thanks, yeah I see a lot of the blwon out highlights. the red filter is quite tricky to work with with really dry/yellow grass. I'm guessing there is a lot of red spectrum activity off this grass... probbaly means I need to underexpose more than anything and and then develop accordingly to work with the lower tones... a learning process for sure... still quite fresh to the whole film matrix.... but loving it nonetheless.

Very nice work Alex. You may want to look at Large Format Photography Forum as well.

Thank you for some inspiring photos. I particularly like #2 tree photo, but there are several other very strong images.
Greetings from a fellow LF newbie, so new that I am still going through the basic operational modes of the camera and lens (aka "dry runs"). I have to say that it is a distinct change to stick one's head under the dark cloth and look at the upside-down image.

You will be very welcome at www.largeformatphotography.info forum, and there are lots of interesting articles on the main page. Also you might check out APUG  (analog photography user group) www.apug.org  - they have a LF contingent, but have many more 135 and 120 users.

The Sinar F2 actually is one candidate as well as the Arca Swiss F Line - but shipping it to EU would be too expensive together with tax - I'll most likely buy inside EU, when I have made my decision..
Cheers

Somehow missed the last one when you posted on LFF, but I still like the first one best. And the sheeps are NOT a negative (even if the image is) ... That's a film joke...
