• Active cooling of the hardware. I've seen many question this feature but for me it's always been a logical choice. Think computers! How would a server-farm function without active cooling. Your personal PC or just your RAID. Keeping the heat down equals less noise = better files. Second, the fan is in the back of the back. No dust is blown onto the chip itself. I've had nearly 10 Leaf backs and never seen or heard about a problem involving the fan.
• The ability to use extra high capacity batteries. This feature is not available with any other system.
• Leaf / MAC is located an hour north of NYC. They do cleaning and repairs most often within the same day. With Phase backs it takes more than a month just to have the sensor glass replaced.
• The Aptus doesn't need a wake-up signal when using the back on technical cameras.
• The ability of using Bridge, Lightroom, C1 Pro, Leaf Capture, and many other raw applications natively.
• Less color-cast issues then with many other digital backs.
• The Aptus series is a workhorse that create breathtaking files when combined with stellar lenses and attention to your shooting technique. This goes for most digital backs; A heavy tripod (or at least one with a hook). Stop down 2 stops. Precise focusing. Use lowest ISO and 1/250sec.
I've been working as a tech for more than 10 years. I'm on a daily basis working with a wide selection of equipment including the Phase IQ, Hasselblad, Canon, Nikon, Sinar and of course Leaf.
This back is a truly great back with a very low milage.
