Mirrorless vs. DSLR with permament Mirror-up
« on: February 20, 2014, 11:05:14 am »

Imagine Canon released an EOS camera with the mirror permamently flip up. To add more illusion, the body is thiner, but the flange distance is somehow managed to work out with all EOS lenses (with the removable extended lens mount). Do you prefer the new camera or the good old DSLR?

I imagine people would complaint the size of the lenses. So, yes, Canon offers the new lenses with reduced lens size, and they work with the removal of the lens mount extender. But then people complaint again, the optical quality does not match the bulky ones.

People then turn their eyes to Leica M and Zeiss ZM lenses. Soon people discover the cost of reducing the lens size in the image quality. Due to some black magic, Zeiss ZM, for most cases, can not match the lens size with Leica M without significantly increases in the costs or the image quality.

So the ball is back ti Canon again or Sony. Will they ever offer the lens with equal or better quality while reduce the lens size?

Sony A7(r) with the  Zeiss FE -55mm sounds just like what you’re asking for.

The Zony (Zeiss/Sony) FE 55/1.8 is not a small lens. It's about the same diameter as a typical SLR 50/1.4 but a bit longer. It is, though, lighter.
