A few from the Atacama Desert, Chile
« on: February 07, 2014, 11:25:35 am »

A few shots from the Atacama Desert in Chile, around San Pedro de Atacama.

1 & 2: Sunset in La Valle de la Luna, the 'Valley of the Moon'. With its unique geology, reminiscent of a Martian landscape, the area is used for testing vehicles for extraterrestrial use.

3: A sand dune glows in the light of the evening sun.

4: Sunrise over Laguna Miniques (closer) and Laguna Miscanti (further) in the Chilean Altiplano. Multiple volcanoes, including Miscanti (the nearest peak) can be seen in the background. Originally a single, larger lake, the lakes took their present form when a lava flow from Miniques, flowing from the right of the image, bisected the lake to form two smaller ones.

The lakes are very blue under neutral lighting, giving a blue hue to reflections even when reflecting the orange dawn sky.

5: Laguna Miniques in the Chilean Altiplano, with a volcano, Cerro Miniques, in the background.

Fantastic panoramas… I love the "La Valle de la Luna" shots, especially the second one. "Sunrise over Laguna Miniques" has a soft light and framing of the lake all give a very pleasing image.

Thanks for sharing.

Great to see you posting again!
You are getting around - South America this time.
Very enjoyable images - I just hope that these are merely the entree!

I'm insanely jealous.  That, and Bolivia, are bucket list locations for me.

Well done.

All great, but I especially like the lake colours in #5.

I am envious, fantastic location, and IMO the bold colours really depict the sense of the place.

#4 is my favourite, but hard to pick a favourite among the five...

Great series!
My favourites are 4 and 5.
Great shots !
Number 3 is a bit too hot for my taste.
1 and 2 have this interesting color contrast - for me a bit at the edge whats bearable, but just at the edge - not yet over it.
The cars in #1 add something though I'm in a conflict if I like it or not so much.
Cheers
~Chris
