From today's Toronto, Downtown outing

Love this kind of shot, and the sunlight/shadows with the blinds, too.

Blueprint, the lines are just a rough indication...

(Actually, this image didn't quite work out the way i wanted to, but d**n, what about those contrails?)

Oscar, just excellent! If I was teaching a class on the principle of dominance, this would be my example of a small red object being the centre of attention despite its small size and extreme off-centre placement in the picture space. "Sail," graphic and minimalist, also excellent.

Thanks. Strangely enough, before my not quite so intentional break from photography i would completely dismiss this type of image, or at least just ignore it. Now, suddenly, i "get" it, i frequently like these type of images, and am also easily able to identify an opportunity. It's the strangest thing. Maybe an "acquired taste" that needed to develop at a subconscious level.

(I do know that the images that some of you post here at lula have contributed a lot to my "understanding" or learning to see.)

Excellent use of shadows. Uncanny, I have a similar shot. But I don't have wonderful curves like you do, or the really wonderful dynamic play of light, shadow and objects that take your eye through the image.

A couple of years ago, on a cold wintry day like today, I decided to tour the country backroads. As I drove I could see that the snow had visually simplified the landscape and made it look minimalist with graphic elements everywhere. But the winds were so blustery and the air so bitingly cold, I only stepped out to take this shot. I then drove home before I got stuck in the storm. I celebrated my one shot with a warm brandy.

Yes Slobodan, I have not forgotten that wonderful shot of small reds and blues lines. That one tilting light sure looks like it is checking you out.

I have to admit to much the same thing: post retirement I hardly made pictures at all; since my wife's death, other than for the occasional week or so off,  I have hardly stopped. It has become both therapeutic and, because the old work genre is no longer financially feasible, has forced me into new directions that I seldom gave a thought to in relation to myself.

I owe it all to one man: I rediscovered Saul Leiter after fifty-something years and boom! there was a ready-made genre I could explore without limits other than the ones in my own head. Okay - no yellow cabs around here and no snowy sidewalks with ladies parading red umbrellas, but apart fom that, plenty of glass windows including my own...

;-)

Actually, this:
http://www.slobodanblagojevic.com/blog/2016/3/nominee---9th-internl-color-awards

Which led to some of the images i posted recently, both normal and abstract. I have no clue how that works. I remember leaving here with JMR's shifted trees in my head and coming back with Slobodan's umptiest pricewinning architecture shot, and suddenly something clicked. I guess my brain got fried and it just stopped thinking, and now i use the gut, like Rob is preaching to us all along...

Sometimes you have to let go and photograph what comes into your head as you walk or see the landscape around you. If I was downtown in a hurry or walking with purpose, I doubt I would see most of the things I have posted.

Continuing on my wintery theme here is another:

Yes, although i like to be able to explicate what i shoot, see, or feel. Obviously, photography that goes beyond words is the stronger photography, but then you first need to be proficient with words. Otherwise you'd go beyond words quite quickly.

(I'm sure Trump would merely need a picture of your average instatwitter cat to be dumbfounded! ;-) )
