Here's one from me, at last.
Taken this summer, but I have no idea what the actual subject was.
(it was taken on a walk where I shot several Lady Slippers. This is clearly not one of them.)
I think I have an idea of what it is. But it does remind me of jagged, moss covered rocks, something old slowly being reclaimed by the earth. The soft light makes the vertical pattern come out nicely.

Parts of it look to me like the trunk of a fallen tree that someone has taken an axe or a chainsaw to.
I'v got to revisit the places I found lady slippers in June and see if I can find it again,

Hey, regardless, enjoy the walks. I think I have only seen one lady slipper. I know lots grow in the Niagara Peninsula if you can bear the bugs when they come out.

Incongruent. But it fits nicely with the theme of trying to balance all the elements. I can crop this image six ways to Sunday and still come up with a good composition. And I did just that in the field, which is the way I like to work. It expands your horizons, so to speak. I am sure others have their way of 'seeing'.

Really good! I enjoy these kind of 'graphic' design images. I tend to frame 'classically' when I'm not really thinking about it. Lately, I've tried to be more open to asymmetry, discord, and tension.

Another good one.

My field technique is something like this: I wave the camera around until I see something that might be interesting. Then I just press the "Compose" button.    ;D

Of course, the irony is if you want to show those themes in a photograph you have to bring order and structure to them in the photograph.

I have to try that some time Eric. I have to say I sometimes dream of photographing by blinking my eyes in the dream. So perhaps that is what you mean.

Thanks Francois.

I've found my Mystery Abstract.
It is indeed a fallen tree. It looks as if some inexperienced woodsman attempted unsuccessfully to cut the tree down after it was dead but still standing. It eventually fell down of its own accord.

I went for a walk  this afternoon in the nearby woods where I had seen ladyslippers in May. I was out for over an hour, following every trail that I might have gone on that day. I was about to give up, when I finally found it, about 6 feet from where I parked my car!

Here is the original "abstract," so you don't have to go looking for it, and below it is today's image, which I think shows the scene better.

Your abstract was gnawing at me until I finally realized what it reminded me of - pipes of an organ!

Excellent stuff, Eric!

In your second shot, are the cutting marks some sort of cannibalism on a human femur?  :D

Thanks guys.

And Francois: I assumed that those grooves were made by a kid who had borrowed his dad's chainsaw. I suspect the chainsaw was to heavy for him to hold it up while cutting all the way through the fallen tree. But maybe it was good enough to work OK on his little sister.   8)

On another industrial walk just a few blocks from the house.
(edit: added a third image)

I agree.

Another good one, John -- that can fairly be called an abstract.
