Photoshop CC "Application Moved" ??

Episodically, when opening a file from Lightroom 5.3 into Photoshop CC I get the following dialog... "The application has been moved, and its path has changed. To update the product configuration, click Update."

Except... the application has NOT moved, as best I can tell. It's still in the same place in the applications folder, as Adobe Photoshop CC. I think this happened after the last update but do not understand it. If I click on "update" I enter my computer password, and it opens.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yep, happens to me too... Not sure why but I just 'update' and move on.

been fighting this for some time.  For me this results because another copy of PS CC exists on my backup drive, and what ends up happening to me is LR launches this copy instead.  The only way I can fix this is to remember to unmount that drive before.  If I update it, I end up launching this copy all the time so it gets rid of the alert, but I’m running off the wrong copy of PS.  Even if I have PS already running, it will sometimes try and launch the other copy from the backup drive.

I’m not sure why LR isn’t defaulting to look within the same application folder it was launched from.  I don’t know if this is an Adobe problem, Apple problem, or a little of both (which is what I suspect).

I have yet to find a good solution, tried many things including preferences, uninstall reinstall of apps.  Basically what I do now is not update, quit PS as soon as it starts, unmount my backup drive, and then go back to LR and and open in PS again.  (although I’m getting better about un-mounting my backup drive.  It mounts every night automatically as part of my backup process using Carbon Copy Cloner.)

The OP didn't specify, but I assume he's using a Mac, as am I. You can do a couple of things:

Before launching Photoshop or doing updates, unmount the backup drive, that is, the "other" drive on which Photoshop is installed. In my Mac Pro I have four drives, some of which have more than one partition. There's a bootable clone of the normal boot drive, which means there's another copy of PS available to the system. If I unmount that clone I don't see the "application moved" message.

You can try adjusting which drives are indexed by Spotlight. I've read of some people having success with this, and it can also solve other problems. Visit the Spotlight control panel, look at the Privacy tab, and add to that list any drives you don't need to search with Spotlight. In this specific case, you'd add the drive or partition on which you've saved your backup or clone.

YMMV, but the first solution works for me, and the second can't hurt.

Same thing happens to me too. Why it wants to launch for a back partition I have no idea.

My solution is to define "Additional External Editor" in preferences as PS from the boot partition. It always shows in LR with a .app extension and is always the second one on the list.

What is strange is that when exporting and telling it to open in PS the correct PS always opens.

Thanks to all for your thoughtful replies. I never thought that CC was launching from my backup drive. I read recently that it's better to run backup drives only when actually backing up so I've shut down the backup drive except for actual backups and that has solved the problem. I use a Mac Pro tower so it's pretty easy to choose which drive I want to run at a given time. I also agree that it all seems pretty silly. The program should run from the primary drive without problem. I too have no idea whether it's Apple or Adobe.
