New Palouse videos
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:12:32 pm »

Early tomorrow, I will publish a recently completed series of videos on a photo trip that we made through the Palouse and central Washington State.

In the store, use the filter 'Travel & Locations' to find it.

There are two print discussions, one between Michael, Kevin & Jack Perkins which forms the backbone for the location footage and a second separate discussion between Michael & Bill Atkinson (aka WheatMan) where they look at photographs of wheat and canola. There is also a slideshow of photos from all five of the participants. And for those who may want to know, these videos were shot in 2007 & 2008.

Chris

You never wanna rush into anything I always say  ;D

As a side note. I was having trouble streaming to my laptop Chris, I finally got sick of it & downloaded it on my main machine. I would not at all be surprised if it was my wifi here at my house, or a local problem of some kind. Streaming here is a hit or miss proposition with the purple player thingy. But downloads always fix it, although they are painfully slow at times. I am on DSL and typically don't have issues with you tube or or other internet videos. Not really a complaint Chris just an observation. I am content to download them.

I used a higher bitrate than normal on this video and a much higher bitrate on the Bill Atkinson 'WheatMan' video and the slideshow. Therefore unless you have a fast ISP/network connection and local traffic is fairly light, these videos may be more problematic to stream. Kevin streamed all of them via AirPlay/AppleTV and had no problems.

If there are lots of complaints about streaming, I will lessen the bitrate but sadly, Purple does not deliver scalable video.

OK Thanks Chris, I did have the most trouble with The Bill Atkinson video now that you mention it. The first ones played OK for me.

I can't find this, "The Palouse: A Washington State Photo Trip." Would you mind posting the link, or telling me how to find it? I want to buy a couple of copies for friends who live in WA state.

Thanks,

Bill

If you click on the "store" link in Chris's original post, then type "Palouse" into the search box at the top and hit "Enter," you should see it listed.

The simplest way is to go to the Store and type Palouse in the search field

But this link will take you there directly - you may have to login though

Oops! Your link takes me to an almost blank screen identified as "checkout" with no place to login! The "search" works just fine.

I've had trouble also on streaming the Palouse video and I have fast fibre optic broadband.  I finally downloaded it.

I find the Purple Player a real mess.  I do wish it was scalable and am surprized you went with a player that wasn't.  Fast forward and fast backward suck - they are just so clunky they are virtually useless.  My small rant is based on my frustration using it and certainly NOT the content and shooting/editing of this video and others.

When you say purple player, do you refer to the Luminous Landscape app or the purple:player on an iDevice?

Strange - all the playback functions work perfectly smoothly for me.

Are you certain that the video is actually downloaded? It will show a green check mark if it is. Videos that are not yet downloaded show a cloud icon.

Well, if the app is responsible, a solution is on the way:
we are stripping out the DRM of downloaded videos allowing them to be played on any media player.
This will however require them to be re-downloaded. I will advise.

Good!
That means back to the tried and trusty VLC player whose face I've grown accustomed to.

Hi Chris,
Getting rid of the DRM is excellent news. I presume you will be using ".mov" files as before?
This means I can watch on my TV without having to buy something like Apple TV.
Cheers
Bob
