Alain Briot's Remembrance of George Lamont Mancuso
« on: November 08, 2013, 08:51:14 pm »

In the 2012 version of "Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon," I read of the untimely death in 2001 of dedicated Canyon photographer George Mancuso.  Eager to know more about him, Google led me to Alain Briot's remarkable Remembrance essay here on LULA -- http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/mancuso.shtml

Thank you Alain for this wonderful tribute, filled with interesting stories of your friendship with Mancuso, stunning photography, and insights into his photography and relationship with nature, as well as a gripping narrative of his final descent into the Canyon.  Well worth reading even today by landscape photographers of all types, but particularly those with a love of the southwest.

I had not read Alain's remembrance before. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. It is indeed very beautifully expressed.

You are welcome.  Thank you for your compliments.

In retrospect, and in light of the increased number of deadly accidents in the Southwest in recent years, the article is a reminder that the landscape is both a place of beauty and a place that presents serious risks.
