Metabones Speedbooster on Nex 7 or a new Nex 7r?
« on: October 21, 2013, 06:57:16 am »

I have been waiting for sometime for the metabones speedbooster to become available for the Nex/Nikon G.
Finally it is out and here comes the new full frame 7R at just about the same time.
I have found the sweet spot (For me anyway) to be about 24mp which makes the 7 almost perfect other then its cropped sensor size.
I have the Nikon 800E and use it mostly for landscapes and digital art reproductions in the studio so the 7r is not a major attraction for its 36mp sensor.
For almost all my shooting other then the above mentioned I grab the Nex 7.
So the question of the day as I am actually tired of this continued upgrading of bodies.
Will the speed booster cut it for the Nex 7 when I want close to full frame with the Nex 7.
Or do I grab the D800E when wanting or needing full frame and just save that $400+ that the speed booster will cost.
Also a little curious as to what this will do to the speed booster line now that the ff Nex is actually here? Sales slow down,no new money for R&D, then production stops?
Anyone shooting Zeiss 21 or 100 macro on the Nex 7 with speed booster, how do those corners look when shooting wide?

Metabones is stating the the speedbooster will not work with the full frame Sony... I suspect not enough of an imaging circle to fill the sensor size. When you use a focal reducer the size of the clear image circle is decreased. So probably aps-c is the largest image diameter than they can currently produce that results in an acceptable image.

Alan,
I guess I wasn't clear.
Trying to determine if I want to keep my Nex 7 and add the speed booster to get close to full frame or sell the Nex 7 and forget about the booster and purchase the new full frame Nex 7R.
Interested if anyone here has the Nex 7 w/speedbooster and how close it is to full frame for their liking?
Not really crazy about another $2300 camera when the speedbooster is only $400.

The Sony rumor website is now saying that the Nex 7 (no longer called Nex though) will be refreshed next year so I think that there will still be a call for the SB from those who don't want the high expense of the FF bodies.  I ordered the A7r then cancelled (I also use Nex bodies and the D800).  I'm hoping that the new Nex 7 will solve some of the issues with the current version (low ISO noise is too high for my taste and corner colour caste and smearing are issues with many wide RF lenses).
