A Louisiana River
« on: October 14, 2013, 11:06:17 am »

Last year Hurricane Isaac poured 8' of water into Blind River turning the water anaerobic, filling the air with a noxious odor. A year later the trees are back in foliage, the gators are back to sunning themselves and the scent of water lilies fills the air. Hope you enjoy.

Nice. Very quiet and pleasantly unusual. It's good to see something different.

Very nice. Great sense of depth, yet quiet. Kind of different in a good way..Great placement of shapes in the image.

This breaks some rules of composition and looks kinda weird, but I absolutely like it. :)

It's nice, but I think I'd be happier with something simpler.  I like the tree on the left and the stumps surrounding it, and I like the silhouette in the background, but I could do without the phantom branches/leaves on the right.  Everyone gets an opinion!

Mystic river :)

Very nice. I like the moody waters, the fog, and the coloured branches overlaid on top of the grey background branches.

I quite like it and especially the fog. It gives depth and lets the imagination work...

One nit: the horizon (although hard to define) seems tilted to the right.

Thank you all very much for your encouraging comments.
Glad you liked the foto.
Francois, the horizon line is slightly tipped to the right. I wanted to save all the trunk on the left. You've got Eagle Eyes !!!

Thanks for the info. Sometimes, it's simply not possible to save everything and I think that your choice was the good one.

I like the image very much. Are you not tempted to clean up the three branches coming in from the bottom right?

John,
Good point you make and one I'm constantly thinking about. How much detail to include?
By editing out the 3 bare branches, would the feel of the scene be too abstract, too dream-like ? After looking at the foto and trying to give enough context to the image, I chose not to. With the dense fog it already seemed a little too abstract. Something particular and something sharply in focus was needed. In the end it could be either way I guess.
Thanks for your comment and for looking at the foto.
