Study on Two Rocks
« on: October 01, 2013, 05:47:58 pm »

Time for Lula and photography have been very limited lately and I'm way behind on viewing.
Here are a couple of recent shots.  Critique always welcome.

I doubt you intended people to choose between them, but otherwise I'd probably be making a comparison to some imagined scene.

The first one -- DSC1755_LM_web2.jpg

I haven't given much thought to why: maybe it's more 'concentrated', maybe it's the strong lines, maybe it's more unusual than a view that shows it's from the beach.

It's a fine series, Chuck. I like them as a group.

I love them all, but #2 is my fave from the group. The rocks look like I can just pick them up!

Great job.

I particularly like the first, which seems to me to have just the right shutter speed to capture the movement in the foreground and the breaking wave at the rear. I'd perhaps prefer it with a little more room at the top and the main rock off centre (crop on the right), but that's pickiness.

They work very well as a group. Nice series.

Well I really like the second image. But I find myself wishing there was a little more image (Water.) on the top edge.

I would agree with Matt on both topics.  :D

Thanks everyone for your comments.
It's interesting that several of you wanted more at the top because when I shot these, I deliberately cut that space short trying to decrease the weight of a less dynamic element.  But I agree the result left them top heavy.  They needed that space for balance.
