This will be seen in the months ahead as a total "Hail Mary" pass.

Lunarcy.

For non-American's, here is the Wikipedia definition..."A Hail Mary pass... is a very long forward pass in American football, made in desperation with only a small chance of success. The expression goes back at least to the 1930s

Oh, that's clever!

I assume it comes before the purchase? With enough bottles of vodka or champaign, chances of doing something stupid grow exponentially ;)

Michael,

I just wish Sony would make a CMOS sensor with liveview for Hasselblad - this would give them an MF camera with super-high ISO, no mirror slap and focus all over the field, something many have been waiting for.

Given what there selling honiestly its probably a smart move, people who buy these kinds of camera's likely aren't going to do so online or at your typical camera store.

I think it's time to start thinking of Hasselblads obituary, wich might be quit similar to "charlie sheen's" one, or Amy Winehouse's .. :)

Buying a Leice M might be slightly down the scale of mental deficiency - but not a lot, I suspect.

Clearly, they're getting paid to do this.
They could do it better
Their customer could do it better

They made great cameras once, but Hasselblad have really lost the plot over the last few years and the Lunar thing is the icing on the cake. I loved an earlier campaign of theirs advertising Steve Mccurry as a Hasselblad H digital user, then showing a bunch of images all shot on film with a Nikon.

Ha - I guess I´m no more a potential customer.
I just bought a Canon EOS M with 2 Lenses 22+18-55+Canon EF adapter for 450 € complete.
And the best thing is: there is Magic Lantern for the EOS M.
All my Canon system stuff fits, Flange focal distance is 18mm so about any lens fits and Image quality is pretty good!
450€ is about the price of the pretty Box they are selling for the Lunar, but I can´t take pictures with this....... :D

I wish Hasselblad much Luck - they will need it.

Greetings from Germany

Well, none of us has to buy.

Thinking about it some more, I hope it becomes a huge success and provides some R&D capital for the serious stuff.

Rob,

now I don't know anything about the owners other than that they are a private equity fund, but given that, it is not clear to me that a huge financial success will translate into R&D capital. I would expect higher dividends to the investors and a focus on this new financially successful strategy. I would love to be proven wrong, though.

Given that the grip itself is the main selling point, potential customers have been advised by Hasselblad Chairman and CEO to learn a new way of holding the camera and shooting, one that will showcase the grip in its full glory:
