I used a monopod extensively on a ship in Greenland and Svalbard last year.  I kept the foot of the monopod on top of my shoe.  This worked well for me.  The monopod also makes a great hiking stick.

Kenyon Labs gyro works well on boats too.  Might really help stabilize to accent using a lighter but slower lens...  Hand held of course or sitting on an inflatable tire tube.  It is a lot of investment though if you aren't going to regularly use it.  I regularly use mine though so have no issues.
