The article was well done but unfortunately limited in scope. Even still, they showed as has other similar tests that a single higher capacity SSD will outperform a raid 0 array using 2 smaller capacity drives. This is not really news.
I’d love to see a similar test but done to show optimal raid 5 array using SSD. RAID 5 arrays do not deliver a notable speed gain until there are at least 4 drives in the array. I dunno if SSD drives would aid or hinder this kind of array, but generally with RAID 5 one gets redundancy, and with enough drives in place, significantly increased performance.
