Hoodoo in Southern Utah
« on: May 27, 2013, 05:05:03 am »

I went to Antelope Canyon last weekend with a few friends and took the time to visit Grand Staircase Escalante for a couple of hours and shot some hoodoos.

Here's a 3-shot panorama with the Canon 24mm TS-E f/3.5L II. I'm pretty happy with the lens so far. I've only used it on 4 trips so I'm still getting used to it.

I wanted to frame this shot a tiny bit more off-center but it was starting to rain so we had to leave the area and hike a mile back to the car. I'm definitely going back there to shoot again.

Very nice, I like the sky! The placement of the hoodoo, centered and with the V shape formed by the ridges, works well for me. The wet soil gives pleasant colors.

Bravo!

Thanks Francois. I was planning on staying 'til sunset but I imagine it was not a place where one would want to be caught in when it rains.

Nothing wrong with that composition at all. Very nicely done. Hint: next time bring an umbrella.

Thank you louoates. I really wasn't worried about getting wet. I was worried about becoming part of the landscape if there's a flash flood. :)

You did well! I once was caught in a storm and it can be frightening and seriously dangerous.

Thanks man. There were spots with loose rocks above so it can be a pretty dangerous place when it rains or if there are strong wind gusts. I figured these hoodoos were formed by wind and water so it's not a place to be messed with when it's raining.
