Phase One IQ Interactive Book now available.
« on: February 06, 2013, 04:02:07 am »

Hello All,

Phase One can now announce that their first interactive (iBook) product guide is available on iTunes for the iPad.

The IQ Back covers the primary features and functionality of Phase One IQ Series digital backs. The ibook guide is an ideal tool for IQ back owners to learn new features and use for reference purposes and because it is designed in the iBook format, all the content including the videos can be viewed offline once it is downloaded.

Please download the guide from iTunes here:

Apple is making some rather shady moves with iBooks

A more open format would be a better choice for wider adoption

The funny part is when David started this thread I wondered "Since this thread references Phase One, what will Fred say to be negative?"

I only know one person, i.e.  client, photographer, assistant, that doesn't own an Ipad.

Not a Kindle, not a Samsung, just an Ipad, to the point the Ipad is almost a generic term.

Whether it's better than the rest is not important to me.

Most of us in the world of communications are deep into the Apple eco system (for better or worse) and it's just too easy to stay with the brand, rather than learn something different and start learning workarounds.

Don't misunderstand.  I don't give a s**t but nobody strays from Apple that doesn't come back.

At least in my experience.

Hi,

Just a small reflection, it seems that the visitors on my web site are predominantly Apple oriented.

Best regards
Erik

Bit off topic but... At DigitalTransitions.com it's:
62% Mac
26% Windows
11% iOS
1% Android

In my experience 90%+ of our actual customers are Mac users.

And 6 visits this month from Blackberry.

C'mon, Doug, don't be so defensive.  Fred's just concerned that Phase have the widest possible audience for the book.

He's a fan.

You mean like the PDF that already exists for the IQ back?

I mentioned this because I recently bought an eBook on a photography technique
I'm interested in. It wasn't clear that it was an iBook format only for iPad.

I asked the writer if he had a different format, but he told me he isn't allowed to sell it
other than through the Apple site because it was made with the Apple App. He was more pissed
off about it than I was.

It's a funky situation when creative material can't be sold freely due to it being authored on a particular application.
Not a good precedence for either photographers or writers.

Not a negative jab at David Grover or Phase One at all.

Quote
Even blogger John Gruber, who tends to sympathize with Apple's side of the argument when controversies arise, objected. "This is Apple at its worst," he wrote. "Let's hope this is just the work of an overzealous lawyer, and not their actual intention."

Why the outcry?

"Apple, in this EULA, is claiming a right not just to its software, but to its software's output,"
Wineman wrote.
"It's akin to Microsoft trying to restrict what people can do with Word documents,
or Adobe declaring that if you use Photoshop to export a JPEG, you can't freely sell it to Getty.
As far as I know, in the consumer software industry, this practice is unprecedented."

All joking aside it is a valid concern, and something photographers in particular should be aware of.

Though the distribution restrictions do not apply to free books like this one.

If I understand the EULA you can only distribute it through Apple channels unless you get written permission to do otherwise.
