Leaf Credo Batteries compatible with Phase 1 IQ batteries?
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:16:28 pm »

Hi, does anyone know if both these types of batteries are compatible with each other?

Thank you

Yes they will.  Batteries between credo and IQ are the same.  2900millamps now.

If I am not mistaken, as I mention in my article here:

http://brianhirschfeldphotography.com/2012/08/19/hands-on-experience-leaf-credo-80-with-full-resolution-sample-images/

Based on conversations with Digital Transiitons the IQ180 ships with 2600 millamps and the Credo will ship with 2900 millamp batteries....someone correct me if I am wrong

Brian,

You are correct, my oversight, it was late :)

You get a 2600 millamp with the IQ's (at least I did), but if you order the Credo, you get the 2900.  I immediately ordered one of the 2900
batteries for my IQ, it works fine, but as you point out does not ship with it.

I was also told that Phase would be shipping the newer batteries with the IQ's sometime in 2012.

From my usage, I really didn't see much difference between the 2600 and 2900 in length of usage.  I actually have better results with the Silver batteries
sold by Capture Integration in Atlanta.  These cost 1/2 of the Phase batteries and last longer (at least they seem to).

Over the years, the stated mAh spec has risen with the Phase One supplied batteries. Kits have been shipping with 2900mAh for some time now, and naturally the Credos are shipping with them as well. Someone questioned the actual mAh of these batteries at one point, so I had some batteries tested and found the capacity matched the 2900mAh spec. I suppose there are other factors that impact the actual performance, just as there are in similar standard AA copper tops vs bunny rabbits.

And thanks for the mention Paul, but actually, to be precise, the silver Phase One 2600 mAh batteries cost 57.1% as much as the standard 2900 black mAh Phase One batteries.   ;D

Steve, sorry for the under pricing, but they are great batteries.  I need to get a bandolero to carry them all in the field.

No problem Paul - I was just ribbing. I'm glad to hear they've performed well. It was and still does remain our belief that these are identical to the (2600mh) batteries that were previously included in the Phase One kits (other than the color being silver, rather than black). They make great add on batteries for the IQ and Credo backs since you can't see the silver color (that may put off some P+ owners).

These work great.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenmar+-+Lithium-Ion+Battery+for+Select+Canon+Camcorders/9345443.p;jsessionid=715FC6A3765F6DA5375ED4A5E4BA0C60.bbolsp-app04-66?id=1218088196402&skuId=9345443&st=9345443&cp=1&lp=1

$ 30.

They are actually on sale now for $26.98

In my test they lasted only 20% less than the 2900mh batteries when new.
These 2000mh batteries ended up lasting just as long as the 2900 batteries after both have been used a few times.

I have used these on Phase Backs as well as other devices (hard drive audio recording and external portable hard drives).

They have a nice snug fit too.

Best to buy more lower cost batteries and get rid of them before they get tired

Lenmar also makes bigger ones that you can use with a Canon CH-910A charger.

The charger doubles as a multi battery holder and charger. You can mount two batteries
to the charger and power the camera (charger not plugged into AC)

You can even put two of these on the ch-910A

http://www.lenmar.com/Web/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=LIC941

For a total of 12,000mAh

They are $ 60 each.

Very handy if you ae doing long exposures in cold conditions.
Batteries can be kept warm while powering the back

The CH-910 even lets you change batteries on the fly without powering down.
Kind of overkill for stills, but handy for other devices.

The adapter cable needs a small mod to lock into the IQ180 etc, but fits perfectly on the P and P+backs.

Fred,

The Canon solution worked great on the older non IQ backs, since as your picture shows the older phase backs had the battery external to the back.  With the Credo and IQ, the battery
is now inside and has a door that must close on the bottom of the back.  The cord from the Canon won't work.  The battery won't stay in if you leave the door open to allow for the cord.
