d800 and 135 dc
« on: August 19, 2012, 06:10:15 pm »

received my nikon 135mm dc on friday and have been playing with it this weekend. today with my granddaughter as a test subject i put the lens to the test. first without moving the dc ring and focusing on the eye using a tripod from f2 thru f8 (as far as i went) the lens was damn sharp. i could see every lash and even the reflections in her eyes were sharp. when i kept the dc ring equal to or less than the f stop used it was biting sharp. but what i really loved was the greta garbo look. if i put the dc ring at say 5.6 and shot at f3.3 the face showed a glow and a soft focus similar to the way greta garbo looked in her movies. and as a straight short tele lens it is a great fast lens. in the few days i have had it i can see it will have many uses for me.

As they say, photos, or it never happened.

I've long been fascinated by the potential of this lens, but equally put off by its cost. I'm here to be convinced  ;)

i will  put it to a real test over the labor day weekend and post images. my wife and i both do photography which makes buying lenses easier. also as long time teachers in california in a district that pays well and 100% payed health plan we have some extra money to spend on our photography.

chairman bill, here are some images straight out of the camera (d800). i understand there is a large learning curve to this lens but i believe my first lesson went well.
