Elgol - updated.
« on: August 04, 2012, 03:24:00 pm »

UPDATED - I snatched a bit at the first version of this image that I posted last week, as I couldn't wait to get at it on the PC, so having let it rest a while, I went back to it and had another go. I have worked it a little differently and a little slower this time, to bring out more of the detail and light reflections on the rocks etc, as well as add a bit more contrast to the waves in the foreground.

Oh and straightened the horizon out for Mike... ::)

A part of me wants to correct the curved horizon created by the wide angle, but if I tell that part of me to keep quiet I'd say it's a very fine image.

I have to say that the horizon was not uppermost in my mind on viewing this image but rather the mouthwatering light and beautiful tones.
Oh, by the way the rock promenade in the foreground perfectly complements that gorgeous sky.

I didn't even notice the horizon line... the rest of the image is perfect and shows the potential of Elgol and surrounding landscape.

I cannot remember exactly how the original was but the new version is wonderful with great details on the foreground rocks!

Beautiful. The only thing I don't like about it is that I didn't shoot it.

Beautiful. The reflection on the rocks tingles.  I do feel that the yellow in the right where the sun would be is a bit flat. It seems unnatural and draws my eye too strongly. It seems there is a bit of blue underneath the central rock in the water that also is a bit "off".

Overall a strong image and feeling evoked!

A great photo - thanks for sharing. Elgol is a magical place!
Last few weeks we were in Mull; Skye is certainly in our minds for a next trip!

Thanks everyone - yes the sun had just set behind the hill to the right and just out of shot. I had to wait for the sun to do this, as there was far too much lens flare until it had set. So the yellow part you can see on the upper middle right of the picture, is part of the sun's afterglow. Don't know about the blue tint, other than it was a long(ish) exposure and the water was moving around the rocks, so that may have added a bluish colour filter type effect to the bottom of the rock I suppose.
