Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM
« on: August 03, 2012, 07:36:56 pm »

Saw a picture of this today:

and my first thought was that if you set it down somewhere it would be like looking for a misplaced contact lens.  I still miss the simple things, like f/stop rings, depth of field scales, focusing rings (although this does seem to have one)...  :P

This reminds me of my old Nikkor 45p.. loved that little lens, especially attached to a small body..

This lens interests me for use with video.  Anyone tried one yet?

Hi
I have the 40 mm, f/2 'pancake' from Voigtlander. About CDN $500. It is manual focus only but easy enough to use with the centre point to help find the focus, using the normal screen. It compares very well -- better results in fact -- with my 24-105 at the 40 mm focal length. If I did not have the VC lens I would be very tempted by this new lens.

The 40mm pancake is really tiny and could easily be mistaken for a 12 or 25mm extension tube!

It's size reminds me of this old Nikkor 2.1Cm f/4 lens  which can only be used on the F and F2: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/ultrawides/21mm.htm
