There are many DBs

Aperture uses Core Data, which is a database-independent abstraction layer

I have no idea what LR has, nor do I care. A database is just a collection
of information. How its stored is irrelevant unless the storage method
creates some kind of ungodly weakness, which is not going to happen
at Adobe or Apple.
