Watching video on Ipad

I know I am way behind you younger folks, but I am trying to catch up.

Just got an IPAD 2 and want to watch instructional video for CS5 AND 6.

This has plunged me into the war between Apple and google--flash vs others.

I simply want to got to websites and watch videos--What do I need to do so on my Ipad 2.

Please be gentle with the technology Speak--Keep it simple please

Thanks for bringing this up! I am 75 yrs old, and relatively computer literate. Because I was an engineer, I always used PCs, so I could bring files home from work and work on them ( rember VisiCalc, and lotus 123?). This Christmas I bought two iPad 2s for my wife and I. We figured they would be great for travel, keeping up with kids and grand kids emails, etc. To my great disappointment, half of the emails I receive contain pictures, video clips, PowerPoint slide shows, etc; non of which play on my GD iPad!!! Big bummer....I may have to leave the iPad home and travel with my ancient PC notebook.

Pictures? Unless they're some exotic RAW format, the iPad can show them. Video clips? Seems unlikely that people are converting their videos into Flash just to email them. Any out of camera video format, the iPad should be able to play. Powerpoints? Go the the App Store and buy Keynote, it's $10.

Are the images and videos that don't show files attached to the email, or are they links to files on the net?

My iPad will not open and play WMV files my friends send me. When I click on it, it says "loading", but never finishes. I have waited as long as 15 minutes, and it never finishes loading. My assumption is that iPads will not play WMV files.

Apple avoids supporting some digital media formats for two reasons, they can't or they won't.

When they can't it's because they think the formats need too much memory, or CPU power, or battery. There are 50+ video formats out there, and putting code in the Ipad IOS for every one of them would certainly bloat it up quite a bit.

When they won't it's because of political battles, egos, and marketing strategy.

Their stated reason for not supporting Flash in the Ipad/Safari is that Flash code is inefficient and places a high strain and drain on the battery. That's true to some extent, but there is some political/ego involved too.

Time will tell. As the mobile computing market grows, media suppliers will slowly realize they are missing a huge market by using media formats that are not supported. So they will change their content. If you own a Flash based website and realize you can't reach several million Ipad users, what would you do?

The death of Flash will not hurt us. The death of most of the video formats will also be good for us.

Thank you Redcrown: makes sence, I guess. But I do miss not being able to look at WMF clips from my friends, unless I go to my PC work station.

AVplayer HD will play anything you can throw at it on the iPad...avi, mp4, wmv etc.

it won't let you watch flash videos on the web though.
