Why Rebel busy so much?
« on: March 16, 2012, 06:15:00 pm »

Just did a shoot with my newish Canon Rebel. The buffer was so slow, busy, busy... torture. Have not seen anything like it since I owned the Canon 1Ds. Any ideas? I 'm in the dark, thanks.

Maybe a little more data ...
- How many shots in burst?
- RAW/JPEG?
- Exposure time/ISO
- Type and speed of SD-Card
- Settings for High-ISO noise reduction and long exposure noise reduction?

Rebel is no speed wonder, partly because of that SD-Card interface.

Thanks Walter,
ok, shooting very slow. 1-2 per second.

Medium jpeg

iso 800, 60 sec, automatic with it's flash.

Normal SD card.

No special settings I'm aware of...

Format the SD card - they get fragmented just like a hard drive does, only faster because the card is smaller than a hard drive.
I always format mine instead of deleting the photos after getting them off the card and into backups.

(I use class 6 and class 10 SHDC cards - what speed class is yours?)

So much for that idea. How about the speed class - the little number in the circle on the card?

Describe in detail:
If you're using burst mode, do you have 3 images per second (at least) for some time and after some time the rate drops to 1-2 images per second.
or
do you start with 1-2 images per second?

Please give the full name specification of your camera. "Rebel" is just a common describer for a whole lot of cameras and there are some differences between them.

Please specify card manufacturer and speed specification. If unable, shoot a photo of the lable.
Please confirm exposure time. I think you mean 1/60 s.
Try to shot without flash. Any differences?

Ciao, Walter

Perhaps the flash is the key... the recycle time of the integrated flash is not that great, and the camera frequently usually adds pauses between shots, to let it cool down.
