FUJI-XPRO1 SUPPORT IN LR4 COMING ???
« on: March 07, 2012, 05:24:58 pm »

hey guys,
got my Xpro1 a week ago and am wondering when i can switch to lightroom again for development.
silkypix is more like < sillypix >
very cumbersome to work with, to say the least.
and I absolutely love LR4. there's something about the look of those 2012process files, like improved midtone contrast.
hard to describe...
anyway, maybe if Eric reads this or somebody takes it to him, we can get Xpro support soonish.
pretty please,
my demo of silkypix is running out and I don't wanna buy it...
as I've read somewhere that the new nonBayer matrix of the new fuji sensor might require a new demosaicing algorhythm,
it might take a while ?
any thoughts?
cheers from NZ

It will get supported when the camera is fully released ... but when who knows.

Thanks for the offer (did someone volunteer to send me an X-Pro1? nice!)   :)

Seriously, though, you can rest assured that work is already in progress.  The reality here is that with a new color filter array (CFA) structure, it will take us a little longer to optimize the quality.

Hey Eric,

To many of us, you're like the Navy Seals of raw conversion: we have no idea how you do it, but it's good to know you're out there :-)

The sooner we can put a bullet in Sillypix the happier all us Fuji users will be!

Cheers,

- N.

Ah jeeeze...you're gonna give the guy a big head...yes, Eric is the unseen Special OPs guy (but don't forget the real guy behind the scene is Thomas Knoll).

At the top of the pyramid regarding raw processing there are a very, very few guys. And they all know each other pretty well (even if they work for different companies). There are stories that could be told (prolly not till the participants are retired). And yes, Eric is an asset...

If you are talking fur seals...for sure...if you are talking seals in general, not so much. It's the yearling fur seal ya gotta be careful of.

Heck, while you're at it I'd settle for a firmware upgrade (if this would do it) to allow us to write the X-Pro1 files directly to DNG, as I've been doing with the 645D. Flawless.

Eric, how 'bout it?

:)

The file format is not the problem, it's the color filter array ordering that is different from the usual and requires a different debayer algorithm.

I understand that; just hoping (facetiously) that Eric could twist Fuji's arms so that in addition to sorting the RAW support itself, we could also have a DNG write capability.
