« on: February 27, 2012, 03:46:04 pm »

Where do I go?

Going there in march. Looking for either one for my 5dmk2 or 1d Mk IV. Cause i guess there is none for the mamiya afd?

AB SEA, down by LAX

be patient, they can be a bit slow, but they know their stuff. Admire the nice big prints on the wall while there, and the "inventions" of cameras of years past(like hasselblads with macro bellows, yes, for underwater use :))

cheers,

Thank you very much!

Can´t find any prices on their webpage?

Maybe a bag is sufficient for my needs?

I wouldn't use a bag if you're planning on going swimming or submerging the camera. I'd personally go for a housing. I found that out the hard way, on a borrowed D3 nonetheless :(... Long story...

Ask for a demo, and ask them to watch YOU assemble it, to make sure you get it right. It might take a few tries, but the times I've gone there, I've maybe had 1-2 other customers in there MAX besides me. Not a super busy place. But I don't go in on weekends(usually).

ASK QUESTIONS if you're unsure about anything. Ruining a trip by destroying your camera and lens can be a ball buster. ASK QUESTIONS.

Real men ask questions when they're not sure, at least in this case ;D

cheers,

Dan

Ouch doesn´t soudn like a fun hard way :)

Thanks for the info i´ll give them a call. What would a housing rent for per day? Dont need and exact number just an estimate.

they'll go through the whole schpiel with you if you ask nice :). Make sure to grease the seals and double check they're not cracked at all. 1st time around can be daunting. What you CAN do though is this:

Assemble the housing, lens tube/dome port, but leave the camera/lens out. Fill the bath tub up, enough so you can fully submerge the housing in. Double check yourself, and take your time. Don't rush. Be patient, and TAKE YOUR TIME :)

They're a pretty low-tech operation believe it or not. The owner's a funny guy(and a bit smelly IIRC, he didn't shower it seems like, I could smell him from 5-6 feet away ;)). That said, he's knowledgeable, and the other guy that was working there at the time knew his stuff too.

HAVE FUN! Ask lots of questions, and ask for a demo if you're not 100% on how to do something.

cheers,

Dan

I can't remember, its probably been a year since my last foray there. IIRC, it was around $250-300 or so for a 5DII housing and 24-70 domeport/lenstube.

These things aren't cheap to buy. Think up to $4-7k depending on model, mfg, etc... Not cheap. So they charge accordingly. But give them a call to find out exact/rough costs for your needs and timeframe of rental(like a week for 2-3 days rental, etc...)

If your back is a P or a P+ you have this option

They are in San Diego. Nauticam has a few other dealers in California

The company itself is based in Hong Kong: http://www.nauticam.com

Is it possible to find them for rent?

And there I was, thinking I'd found a new way to spend a holiday in a unique apartment not just by the sea, but in it over the roof!

The infinity pool promised to be something quite else.

Oh well...

Yeah, and my first thought was that the OP was looking to rent a house with an underwater mortgage; presumably the rent would be cheap. Ain't it great how a few words can be interpreted so differently? :)

SPL waterhousing in San Diego is the thing. They are built for surf shots!
