Recommend a Point and Shoot shirt pocket size camera
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:24:46 am »

Good morning.   My wife dropped her Canon S90 camera and then tried to take it apart and fix it.   It's now in pieces and can never be repaired.

Can you provide a recommendation on the best replacement camera within the following parameters:

1.  Small size, the new Canon G1x is to large.  She wants a form factor close to the S90
2.  RAW capability
3.  Zoom, not a SLR
4.  Low light/low noise

Is there a competitor to the S100 that I should consider?

There may still be some S95s available. I bought one recently to replace my busted G10, and I find it a very usable pocket camera.

I have looked and looked, but in that form factor the Canon s100 seems to be the best so far. (unless someone [hopefully] crams an APS-C sensor into one of those)

Not for everyone, but there are shirts where this might fit in ....
Definitely better sensor than APS-C ....

Thanks all, I pulled the trigger on the S100.  It was only $40 more than the S95 and has the form factor she wants.

I always have my S95 in the pocket.
Nothing better with that size.
You're going to enjoy the S100.

Great cameras, if only they offered even a bit of resistance to water. A friend of mine had one more S95 dying from light rain exposure 3 weeks ago...

Cheers,

Imaging a film Contax T3 or TV-S with full frame sensor, that will be ideal.
Base on how fast and far the digital technology developed, I think we are within 2 years from seeing it happen, and hope it will be a Contax, not an Apple phone.
