I'm considering a new camera - either a K5 or a D7000. I'm leaning toward the K5, but am a bit concerned with lenses. I know lots of people like Pentax for the availability of older primes, but that's not what I need. I need to cover a fairly broad range ("equivalent" FL of 28-300 - or if possible 24-400) with just a couple of zooms. They don't need to be fast, but should be reasonably sharp. For the lower end of the range the Pentax 17-70 f4 should be fine, or the Sigma or Tamron 17-50 2.8. It's in the 70-200/300 range that I come up short. Pentax makes several 50ish-200 or 250 zooms, all of which seem mediocre at best according to reviews. Same for the Sigma offerings. The newish Tamron 70-300 VC would be adequate, but it's not made in a Pentax mount. The various 70-200 2.8s are out of the question because of size & weight. The Pentax 50-135 f2.8 seems great, but just too short. Any ideas? (Of course, going with the D7000 would solve the lens problem, so I'd also be open to arguments for the superiority of that camera.)
Any thoughts appreciated......
