2580QR:   Is anyone using this gitzo kit for landscapes?
Does the ballhead work great in the field? Also when you want to make panorama's? So can the head be rotated without losing the camera?

If you are using the the traveller version... It seems like the head can't be removed or easily changed. I think this setup is great for travelling light but less suited for stuff like panorama's etc.
Is this true?

I don't have the Gitzo 2580TQR series 2 traveller, but have been looking at it online. Some of the reviews at B&H talk about having to buy a (Gitzo) plate and stud for attaching 3rd party heads. My experience over a lot of years working with vintage Gitzos suggests to me that this would not be difficult, but not sure with this design. And again, it sounds like some of the people posting reviews at B&H have made it work just fine. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/631144-REG/Gitzo_GK2580TQR_GK2580TQR_Traveler_4_Section_Carbon.html    Hope this helps!   -Ben

My 2 series Gitzo is a bit light for serious work but good as a travel tripod, My 3 series Gitzo is the right size for serious work
My 2 series is a LVL with a Linhof profi 2 ball head and RRS clamp
My 3 series has a RRS leveling base, B55 ball head and clamp
If you want a stable tripod for a DSLR with a long lens or MF go for the 3 series

Here's another link dealing with the traveller and removing the head that comes with it.  http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/831091
