Need help with focusing H4D for self portraits
« on: December 03, 2011, 09:41:39 pm »

I'm new to the H4D system and need some help on how to focus for self portraits. What method do you use? I would really appreciate the advice.

I assume you are using a remote release? A half press will activate the AF, the issue would then be getting an eye in the right spot for the focussing brackets. You could work tethered with the screen towards you and use trial and error to get your eye in the right spot or even use live video..

Hi Mark,

On the low-tech solution, you can always use the self-timer...shortcut is double-tap the mirror-up button to invoke timer...

;D Excellent Point DF - slipped my mind about the remote control while tethered

Thanks for all the replies. My issue is getting focus lock on my eye. I think I've solved this by using a page of text taped to either a tripod or area where my head will be and then using True Focus and recomposing. Seems kind of crude and not as exact as locking on a model, but it'll do. If someone has a better idea, by all means.
