Epson 9800 Paper Jams with 44" but not with 36"
« on: October 09, 2011, 12:19:07 am »

We are able to print on anything up to 36". When we load 44" we get a paper jam.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this error?

Thanks!

Do you get an actual jam or just an error?

If it's an actual jam, is it jamming left or right side - what's the actual description of the jamming that's happening?

If it's just an error, may be a faulty paper sensor (or just dirty).  If it's actually jamming, look for an obstruction or something on/obstructing one of the rollers.  Watch the paper as you feed it through and see what happens.

Paper jam sensing is usually based on the progress the head carriage makes running vice versa over the sheet. That movement is measured with the decoder strip + sensor. Check whether there is dirt on the decoder strip between the 36" and 44" range. It could be more complicated if there is something wrong with either the motor or the belt of the head carriage but check the strip first.
