adjusting the brightness on a mac
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:38:39 am »

I am using i1match and an i1 to profile my monitor and having some issues. The main issue is my MacBook Pro only has two ways to adjust the brightness of the screen. The first is a slider in the "system preferences/display" and the other is on the keyboard. My problem is when I am trying to hit a specific luminance in i1 match I can only get access to the keyboard controls and they are not accurate enough. I can't seem to see any way to have bot the software brightness slider and i1match on the screen at the same time. Anyone help with this novice question.

All the best,

Cliff

And the moment you change the angle of vision between your eyes and the display what you thought was correct a moment ago no longer is. This is a mugs-game. Calibrate the display for white point, black point and Gamma, run the profiling software, then load an image with known reference colours and adjust the display brightness to approximately match how that image would look correctly printed. The Outback Photo test image is a good one to use; so is Andrew Rodney's. Anything more than this won't buy you much. Doing colour-critical work from a laptop is not generally a great idea.
