Can I use barbieri spectro LFP/swing with i1Profiler?

Dear all,

Thanks for all of you who replied to my last topic about the iSis and the i1iO.
But now I've checked the price in China, the difference on the price of the iSis and Spectro Swing in China is not that big.
Now the question comes back again:

As a fine art printing services, do I need to UV/non-UV (OBC) feature?
or should I go for the swing which I could measure trans media as well??

Not directly, there’s no support for that instrument. You can probably use whatever software they supply and import CGATs and work from there. And no, I don’t see how i1P could generate a custom target for a device it doesn’t natively support (unless I’m missing something).

I have a Barbieri LFP (first version), not a Swing. I drive it with some experimental software, using Linux, so I don't know much about the standard way of using it.

Barbieri have some software of their own (an OEM Basiccolor) which reads patches, and writes CGATS files. Their preferred profiler is Basiccolor, You can also create your own templates. The current predefined target list is here. There are some third-party targets at the bottom of the page. You could also just download their software or a demo Basiccolor and have a look.

I am sure I could make up a target for i1P if someone asked me nicely and paid me
I also think that Barbieri would probably go out of their way to make you a target if you asked them.

I know a couple of color consultants who work for device manufacturers who bought LFP's and like them - one has some very complex handmade targets; but I have no knowledge of Swing. I think we all agree that the LFP is kludgy initially, but it turns out to be hugely robust and flexible in every way.

IF you want to use i1P, you want to have it generate patches (it does an excellent job, superior to the custom patch generator in ProfileMaker Pro). How you get some other package to read it is another story.

ColorPort is actually also a pretty good patch generator.

I'll have a look at this tomorrow. I now have TWO good instruments that are not supported by i1Pro: The LFP and the DTP70.

Dropping DTP70 direct support wasn't one of Xrite's nicest decisions, but at least they still provide Colorport.

Does i1P have any strange patch ordering needs like Monaco?

Sidenote to members of this forum: There is always a way. These are pro instruments and there is always a way to get from A to B.

Yes it is but how is that useful? One could generate the patches in i1P (which is different and improved) and load em into ColorPort to build targets and measure. How does one measure in ColorPort a device not supported?

Does i1P have any strange patch ordering needs like Monaco?
