How many dpi for HP prints?
« on: August 03, 2011, 09:21:31 pm »

I need to send 5 files to be printed for a show. The organizers are requesting the files to be sent by FTP server. What's exactly an FTP Server?
I know Epson is optimized for 360 dpi printing. How many for HP? The files will be printed on cotton-based Hahnemuhle paper.
TIA

Send 300 or 600 PPI rendering/input resolution. If you are sure that your extrapolation routines are better than their's.

FTP Server is a place on the internet where you can send your images to when logged in with a user name and password, the print shop will have access to that place too.

There are several commercial FTP server services that you could use if the event organizaers haven't specified a URL for you to upload your files to.  One that I use is called YouSendIt.  They have a free trial subscription that might serve your immediate needs or if sending large files is something you may need to do frequently in the future, their regular paid subscriptions are quite reasonable.  They even have plug-ins available for Photoshop, Aperture, and iPhoto to allow for upload of files directly from your photo editor.

I've used sendthisfile and yousendit a few times. I just didn't know they were ftp servers though I suspected.
Thanks Steve
