Hi Gerald. Amazing shot! For those of us sneaking in the Medium format board to learn about technique,
could you explain the exif data in a bit more detail?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Kaypee - Thanks for the kind words.

Lens was a Rodenstock 32mm HR, aperture f/5.6.
Camera an ALPA FPS, shutter speed 1/1000th of a second.
Digital back was a Phase One IQ180, set to ISO100.

Kind regards,

Gerald.

Thanks for posting Simon - nice shot, and this thread is way too quiet!

Here's a recent one of mine.

32HR at 5.6
FPS at 1/1000
IQ180 at 100
Bell 412 at 300m

Kind regards,

Gerald.

Really difficult shot for a technical camera on a chopper.

I think I would rather handle a tarantula than find myself up that building.

I was at the pinnacle (the very, very top) having just finished shooting a 2.5 gigapixel pano and was packing up my gear when a dove landed on my shoulder.

Now THAT gave me a fright :)

Just for a bit of perspective...

The red shaded area highlighted by the arrow is the "At the Top" observation deck.

That observation deck is roughly at the same height as the roof of the Willis Tower in Chicago.

From there to where that photo was taken from is roughly the height of the Empire State Building.

So yeah, it's a long way down :P

How did you get up there?  Hopefully there's a lift inside, not stairs.  Jim

You can only get to 647m with the lifts. Then it's stairs and ladders to the top (828m). The final 135m are vertically up a ladder inside the spire.

I get vertigo just looking at the photo.

Thank you, Gerald, for doing all that work for us so we mortals don't have to!

I apologize that I can't post MF images until early next year, but here's one with my D800 and 16-35 VR that I shot this weekend:

OMG!!

Both of those are wonderful images. The fact that you had to go all that height up makes that second one simply amazing. Great work Gerald, just breath taking..I would imagine literally breath taking, while you're up there.

Haha. This time, the skin looks odd because it is intentional . ;)

I can't wait, either. Have quite a few ideas lined up!
