missing TIF-files after import catalouge
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:59:43 pm »

Hi
I am using two computers (Macs) and always make an export and import from catalogue when I am back home. However if I have made B/W conversion and saved these as TIF-files they are not imported so I have to do it by hand, file for file. Is there a work around? I guess I could convert the TIF-files to DNG, but then I would have to convert back again if I want to edit them. I use Silver Efex Pro 2 for the B/W work.

Any suggestions?

Stig

Were these TIFF files visible in Lightroom on the computer where you did the editing (I assume this is your laptop)?

Any files not visible in Lightroom when you do the export as catalog will not be exported even though these files exist in the same folders as where the files Lightroom knows about exists. I'm pretty sure this is your problem since I just tested a folder including TIFF files and they were exported and imported in a new catalog (and they were visible in Lightroom at the time of export as catalog).

Thanks you helped to put me on the right track!I have localized the problem now. Silver Efex Pro change the file privileges for the TIF-file after editing to "no access" that is the reason why it is not imported. I do not now why this happens and I can't find anything on their website. But there should be a way to solve it somehow by changing file permissions. But the culprit is not LR anyway!

Strange as I just did a test using Silver Efex Pro from Lightroom (The NIK for Lightroom version) and did again an export and import test on the same machine and it worked (including one picture I had edited in Silver Efex Pro from Lightroom and which became a TIFF file).

It is not a problem if you stay on the same machine! It is when you change machine. I have tested on my Imac and the permissions are changed also there, but that is not a problem as you are the same user. Verify the permissions for the TIFF file others get no permission for me.

I tried again and this time I added another account on my Mac and imported into a new catalog under that new user. I exported to an external drive and imported as copy. In the finder the TIFF had permissions as me (the new account) since the TIFF file was copied from the external drive to another location and given the permissions of the new user.

Did you remember to use copy in the import of the pictures?

Yes I used copy. It is all a question on file priveliges. I create the file on my MacBookPro and import it to the Imac. If I do the copy of the single file from the MacBookPro it works, but not the other way around and if I want to import a whole catalog to the Imac I must be on that machine. Just for testing I have created TIF-files using other plugins and they have readonly as usual! So SilverEfexPro sets the file priveligies to "no access".

Anyway thanks for your help!

In the test I did. The user got read/write priviledge and others read only. So I simulated the situation by two different users on the same Mac which is the same as two different machines. My package is NIK for Lightroom.

Thanks for the help. Funny thing as SEP is the only plugin that behaves like this for me so it is not anything with my computers. I have sent a question to NIKsoftware. I only have SEP from them.
